School Wellness Policy Assessment and Goals

As part of Carlynton School District’s commitment to supporting student health and well-being, we have completed the 2025 Triennial Assessment of our School Wellness Policy (Policy 246) in accordance with federal regulations under 7 CFR 210.31. This regulation requires all local education agencies (LEAs) participating in the National School Lunch Program to assess their wellness policy at least once every three years and make the results available to the public.

On this page, community members can view:

The completed Wellness Policy Assessment Tool and Report Template, which evaluates how well the district is implementing wellness practices across our schools.
A set of three updated wellness goals developed by the district’s Wellness Committee to address areas marked as “Partially in Place” or “Not in Place” during the assessment.

These goals focus on:

Enhancing nutrition education and communication
Expanding Farm to School initiatives through classroom-based hydroponics
Implementing a local assessment system for physical education standards

We encourage all families, staff, and community members to review these materials and join us in supporting a healthy school environment for all students.

Community Eligibility Provision

What Is It?
Carlynton School District is pleased to announce their participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) in all Carlynton schools for the 2024/2025 school year. This provision allows the District to provide free breakfast and lunch meals to all enrolled students during the school year. Families with students who attend the District do not need to complete a free and reduced meal application.

Services
Breakfast and lunch meals follow the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for healthy school meals. Please encourage your child to participate in the school meal programs.

Summer Food Program

Children 18 and under can enjoy meals at participating meal sites this summer. SUN Meals are free and help your kids get the nutrition they need all summer long.

Message:

Federal Regulation 7 CFT 210.12 (d) (2) requires all School Found Authorities (SFAs) operating the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to announce the availability and locations of free meals for students over the summer months, served through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Seamless Summer Option (SSO). These two programs along with SUN Meals to Go (Rural Non-Congregate summer meals), and SUN Bucks (also known as Summer EBT), are collectively called Sun Meals.

The requirement to advertise SUN Meals is effective even if the SFA is not participating in the SFSP or SSP.

SFAs may fulfill the requirement thorugh posting on the school's website, flyers, phone calls, text messages, or other methods that inform the community of summer feeding availability. An example publication template is available on page 2 of this memo.

Schools or families can use any of the following methods to locate sites that serve free meals to children during the summer.

The Bureau of Food and Nutrition encourages all SFAs to consider offering Summer Meals through the SFSP or SSO. Information regarding the requirements of these programs is available here: Summer Meal Options 2025

The Nutritional Value & Calories for foods served in the cafeteria

It is a big - and very important - job to plan, purchase, prepare and serve nourishing and appealing meals for the students of the Carlynton School District. Aramark, Inc. offers a variety of menus for the youngsters and teens of the junior-senior high school, and also provides an assortment of items ala carte. From slushy fruit smoothies to hot tempting soups, there's always something that appeals to the picky eater or the hungry athlete.

Nutrislice Menus

Each meal prepared by the Food Service Program meets the following recommended quantities, as established by the U. S. Department of Agriculture's Child Nutrition Programs:

Milk	8 fl. ounces (1 cup)
Meat or Meat Alternate	3 ounces; alternate examples: cheese, eggs, peanut butter
Vegetables	3/4 cup
Fruit	3/4 cup
Grains/Breads	Minimum of 1 per day/serving is equal to a slice of bread, roll, biscuit, or 1/2 cup cooked rice, macaroni or other pasta

In keeping with the newly adopted Wellness Policy, the menus now follow strict guidelines to lessen sugar and carbohydrate intake.
